Covid-19 Cannabis: How Not to Be a Jackass at Your Local Dispensary

Covid-19 Cannabis: How Not to Be a Jackass at Your Local Dispensary

By Lisa Mortown

Whichever way you look at it, it’s going to take some time for life to return to anything that even remotely resembles normal. Whether or not lockdown measures are tightened or loosened, it’s up to each and every one of us to do our bit for the cause.

Hence, this isn’t the time to be acting like a jackass at your local dispensary.

Anything you (and everyone else) can be doing to keep yourself (and everyone else) safe is something you can and should be doing. So with this in mind, here’s how to conduct yourself as a respectful and sensible human being during your next dispensary visit:

1. Always Wear a Mask
Irrespective of whether or not it is compulsory in your jurisdiction, only a complete moron enters a store without wearing a mask right now. Covid-19 is asymptomatic in at least 50% of cases, meaning at least half of those who have it have no idea they’re carrying it…and spreading it. Wearing a mask exponentially reduces the risk of spreading the virus to others, so it’s common courtesy to wear one.

If not…well, let’s just say you deserve everything you get when the more considerate folk in the store tell you where to go!

2. Use Hand Sanitizer and Don’t Touch Anything
Cleaning your hands with hand sanitizer before and after entering a dispensary is mandatory. However, so too is avoiding the temptation to touch anything you don’t intend to buy. Chances are your hands are clean, but it’s still common courtesy to keep your mitts to yourself.

Ask the budtenders and assistants to show you anything you’re interested in buying, rather than grabbing it yourself.

3. Practice Sensible Social Distancing
Until further notice, the advice from most major public health authorities worldwide is to stay at least 6 feet away from other people where possible. Something to remember when out shopping for weed - especially if the store is busy at the time.

They’ll most likely limit the number of people they allow in at once, but you can still contribute to the cause by shopping at quieter times.

4. Shop Alone if Possible
Rather than piling into your local dispensary as part of a group, it’s far better to locate one (responsible) individual to go pick up what everyone needs. If there are strict limitations on how much you can buy in your jurisdiction, several trips to one or more dispensaries will overcome that particular obstacle.

It may also be possible to call in advance and have your dispensary prepare your order, so that you simply need to pay for it and collect it.

5. Buy in Bulk
If the option exists, you could also think about buying more weed than you need right now. For the sake of safety (and basic common sense), you may as well limit the number of trips you need to make to your nearby dispensaries. This could also be just the excuse to invest in that high-tech stash box you’ve had your eye on, but couldn’t previously justify.

Plus, there’s the added bonus of bulk-buying discounts, which could see you getting more bang for your buck.

6. Protect Your Budtenders

Last up, if you’ve experienced any possible symptoms of Covid-19 or been in the presence of anyone who has, don’t even think about visiting your local dispensary for at least a fortnight. Dry coughing is all part and parcel of the stoner experience for many, but anything out of the ordinary should be a genuine cause for concern.

Worst-case scenario, you can have one of your buddies pick up what you need and post it in your mailbox. Far better than risking the health and safety of everyone you come within six feet of while shopping for weed.
